Green Shield Certified Seeks Project Assistant
June 29, 2009. Green Shield Certified, a third-party certification program for pest control services and facilities, is seeking a project assistant to coordinate communications with partners and participants and provide general clerical and administrative support. June 24, 2009. The June 2009 issue of PESPWire, the monthly bulletin of the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program, is now available. Topics include EPA's new soil fumigant safety measure, a new anti-anthrax microbial pesticide, upcoming events and grant opportunities. The IPM Institute is also named as PESP Member of the Month! New EPA Video Podcast On "Green Gardening and Pest Management"
June 19, 2009. EPA has posted a new video podcast highlighting ways consumers can manage pests in their homes and yards using IPM. The IPM Institute and three other PESP members are also mentioned for their efforts to promote IPM and reduce pesticide risk. To view the video, visit www.epa.gov. Go to the "Multimedia" section on the bottom right corner of the page and click on the "play" arrow under the picture.

Oke USA Fruit Company Seeks Employee for Banana Logistics and Sales

NRDC Seeks Sustainable Food and Ag Consultant in Bay Area
June 16, 2009. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is now accepting applications for a Sustainable Food and Agriculture Consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area (full time equivalency).  The consultant will work with NRDC staff to implement several projects seeking to advance more sustainable food and agricultural systems. Free IPM in Health Care Training Sessions Offered
June 3, 2009. A free IPM training session organized by the IPM in Health Care Facilities Project will be held Monday, June 15 in Baltimore, MD. The trainings are intended for facility managers and staff with pest management responsibilities. The sessions will cover technical aspects of IPM program planning, implementation, and operation. Larry Elworth appointed US EPA's Chief Agriculture Counselor
June 1, 2009. Larry Elworth has been appointed as EPA's chief Agriculture Counselor. Larry has more than 30 years experience in agriculture and brings to EPA an understanding of all sides of agricultural issues. He has previously owned and managed of tree fruit and vineyard operations, served as Executive Director of the Center for Agricultural Partnerships, and worked with the Department of Agriculture and the Domestic Policy Council.

Entomological Society of Canada Meeting to be held in Manitoba, October 18 – 21, 2009
May 29, 2009. The Entomological Society of Canada's annual meeting will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba from October 18 – 21, 2009 at the Fort Garry Hotel.  General symposia topics include biological control, urban structures and forests, arthropod host-symbiont relationships andpollination biology.  More details can be found here.

UC Davis Seeks Senior Editor of Pesticides and Pesticide Safety
May 28, 2009. The University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program develops and promotes integrated and ecologically sound pest management programs in California and develops training materials for pesticide applicators and pest control advisors.  The Senior Editor is responsible for compiling, editing, revising, and writing pesticide-related books and serves as a resource to other staff on the subject of pesticides. Oregon State Publishes "Pest Press" Summer Edition
May 27, 2009. The Oregon State University School IPM Program and Salem Keizer Public Schools have released their May/June "Pest Press" newsletter with tips for excluding pests from school facilities during the summer months. Read the newsletter here.

New Daycare IPM Bills Passed in Connecticut and Illinois
May 21, 2009. The Connecticut and Illinois legislatures have passed bills increase the protection of children at day care centers from toxic lawn chemicals. The bills passed both legislatures on unanimous votes with the exceptiion of five dissenting votes in the Connecticut House of Representatives. New Risk Reduction Information Available Online
May 21, 2009. The Pest Management Centre at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has new information available on its website. The Pesticide Risk Reduction Strategies section has been expanded and updated, and several new fact sheets are available. Visit the PMC Website for the latest pest management information.

New School Pest Management Law Passed in Connecticut
May 20, 2009. Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell recently signed the state's fourth school or daycare center pest management related bill into law in the last 10 years.  The bill establishes pesticide application notification requirements; eliminates restrictions on when applications of certain pesticides can be made on the grounds of daycare centers; broadens when pesticide applications are allowed in daycare centers; and limits the application of pesticides inside daycare centers to certified pesticide applicators, except in cases of certain emergencies. IL General Assembly Approves School & Daycare Pesticide Use Legislation
May 19, 2009.
The Illinois House of Representatives recently approved a bill requiring the owners and operators of licensed daycare centers to ensure that lawn care products will not be applied to daycare center grounds when children are present at a center or on its grounds. New on 2/18/09!
IPM Elements and Guidelines are concise lists of IPM and related practices. These are crop and region-specific, and very efficient resources for determining which practices are recommended by land-grant university scientists. But how does one effectively develop and use these elements and guidelines? A new resource, now available on the IPM Centers website, provides the answer with a step-by-step guide on making guidelines and an explanation on the various ways growers, crop advisors, researchers, conservation program administrators, and buyers can all best use guidelines. The Plant Management Network's online resource, the Plant Disease Management Reports, has been updated for 2008. This year's collection of 560 searchable reports help growers, consultants, pesticide applicators, and extension specialists stay up-to-date with the latest in disease management information. More.

New on 7/29/08!
The Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides has made available four different publications on non-herbicidal weed control. The four publications cover hardscapes and fencelines, shrub beds and landscaped areas, tree wells and turf. The information was complied by interviewing 20 parks staff in eight cities throughout the Northwest. More
